Serata Siciliana

A Wonderful Evening

On Tuesday evening the Serata Siciliana Wine Tasting event was hosted by Baglio di Pianetto from Palermo, a winemaker that, since 1997, has achieved a perfect balance between tradition and innovation in wine making. This event followed on from the success of our previous wine tasting dinners hosted by other highly acclaimed producers from around Italy and proved just as thrilling.

We were honoured to welcome Dario Rinaldi from the Baglio Di Pianetto Estates in Sicily who flew in for one night especially to present this evening celebrating the wine and food from the region which is inextricably entwined with the rich culture and heritage of Sicily and its people.

Guests enjoyed a six course fine dining menu which had been carefully prepared by Chef Maurizio to complement the award winning wines from Baglio Di Pianetto, including a selection of traditional dishes using ingredients native to Sicily which have been produced there and inspired cooking for generations. The tapestry of flavours brought together for each dish were perfectly paired with a fabulous selection of wines which can always be found in La Locanda’s wine cellar and on the menu.

As hosts for the evening, Dario introduced each wine which was to accompany each course detailing the qualities and provenance, whilst Cinzia introduced the next course and explained the story behind the dishes and the heritage of the ingredients.
The atmosphere was relaxed and vibrant as guests sampled the food and wine on offer and discussed the finer points of the dinner with Dario and Cinzia who talked to them at the table and answered questions.

The menu included traditional dishes and celebrated unique ingredients from Sicily.

6-course dinner & wine tasting

Baglio di pianetto - From a curiosity to reality

COUNT PAOLO MARZOTTO

Many years ago, a little boy (who still didn’t know what or who he was going to become) asked his mother to buy him a bottle of wine. They were in Sicily, traveling, and she replied that he was still too young. But he insisted and his mother finally gave it to him, on condition that he waited until he was seventeen to open it.

Having reached that age, that child, now a boy, finally opened the bottle; but the wine had partly evaporated. Count Paolo Marzotto was never able to drink that long-awaited wine, but it was this particular discovery that captured his imagination and his attention. Thus, the Count undertook his first research to understand where everything had originated, that is, to understand how wine was made.”

Desires and ideas that have become reality only thanks to the love for Sicily and the passion for wine, a love supported by innovative and courageous choices
