Top of the Class for Visit Lancashire Winners

Recently we welcomed Visit Lancashire competition winners to our state of the art kitchen to cook alongside Chef Maurizio and learn the secrets of his pasta making. But did how their culinary adventures go and what Holly did and her husband think of their experience?

Our winning couple enjoyed an immersive cookery experience which took them on a journey through an introduction to the basic knowledge of making pasta dough to creating different pasta shapes, cooking delicious fillings and making sauces. They were imbued with the knowledge and heritage of the ingredients and generation old techniques practiced by Italians, passed down from grandparent to child. Over the course of their class, they were able to make their own pasta and afterwards savour the fruits of their labour during a tasty lunch.

Here is what Holly had to say about their experience at the La Locanda Cookery School :

“When I won a cookery class at la locanda I was delighted but didn’t know what to expect.
I spoke to Maurizio on the phone and we decided we would make pasta. I’m vegetarian and my husband a huge meat eater. Maurizio said we would make one of each type without any hesitation.

We arrived on the day of the class and were met by Cinzia and some of the most delicious pastries we’ve ever eaten. We enjoyed them with a coffee, a chat and then we got to business. Feeling like we were on masterchef we were given aprons and set off for the kitchen. We made our own pasta and were taught how to make it in to all different shapes. We made a beautiful filling and butter sauce and then a sauce with meat which my husband ate more of than we put in I think!

Maurizio answered all our questions and provided us with a number of recipes to take home.

When we’d finished the class we sat down for the most amazing meal. Nothing was too much trouble. I think its listed as a light meal but there was nothing light about it! Their generosity was unbelievable. First of all cinzia told us all about the wines available and we had a different glass each. They were both delicious.

We had a traditional Italian starter, we were told all about the history of this dish and this was then followed by the pasta we made. The portion was huge and we took a load of it home which was an added treat.

When we told Maurizio about our love of cheese he excitedly put us together the most amazing cheese board, but not before Cinzia bought us a palate cleanser – Sorbet that I could have had a bowl of!

By the end of the meal It felt as if we were chatting with good friends.

We had the most amazing day. If you are considering booking this class please don’t hesitate. It is worth every penny. You will learn loads and have the most amazing meal. I can’t wait to take my whole family back – what a special place.”
