Vote for Maurizio: VisitEngland Tourism Superstar 2026

Chef Patron Maurizio Bocchi of La Locanda, nominated for VisitEngland Tourism Superstar 2026

We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news: our Chef Patron Maurizio Bocchi has been nominated for VisitEngland Tourism Superstar 2026, and we need your help to make this happen!

This prestigious award celebrates individuals who create exceptional visitor experiences and champion their region. For over 20 years, Maurizio has done exactly that – showcasing the very best of Lancashire’s incredible produce whilst sharing the warmth and authenticity of Italian hospitality.

A Journey from Lake Maggiore to Lancashire

Maurizio’s approach to cooking is unique. Whilst his techniques are rooted in the Italian traditions he learned growing up on Lake Maggiore, his passion has always been celebrating the best ingredients from wherever he calls home.

For more than two decades, that home has been Lancashire – and Maurizio has dedicated himself to putting the Ribble Valley firmly on the map as a destination for food lovers.

Two Decades of Dedication to Lancashire

What makes Maurizio’s contribution to tourism special is his unwavering commitment to Lancashire’s producers and landscape. He’s built deep relationships with outstanding local suppliers:

  • Paul Hodges Butcher
  • AO Seafood, Burnley
  • The Secret Lady Market Gardener, Ribble Valley
  • Ribble Farm Fare, Preston

These aren’t just supplier relationships – they’re partnerships built on shared values of quality, sustainability, and passion for what Lancashire has to offer.

Making the Ribble Valley a Food Destination

Through his work at La Locanda, Maurizio has helped transform Gisburn and the wider Ribble Valley into a recognised destination for culinary tourism. Visitors travel from across the North West and beyond to experience his seasonal menus, where Lancashire lamb meets Lake Maggiore traditions, where Ribble Valley vegetables shine alongside the finest Italian extra virgin olive oil.

“We are very proud to receive such recognition in Lancashire – a home to award-winning chefs and some of the best restaurants in the UK. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” – Maurizio Bocchi

More Than a Restaurant

Maurizio’s vision has always been about more than running an excellent restaurant. It’s about showing visitors what makes Lancashire special – the quality of our ingredients, the warmth of our welcome, and the passion of our producers.

Through his many culinary events, Maurizio has introduced countless visitors to Lancashire’s food story. His Extra Virgin Olive Oil campaign brought international speakers, Italian dignitaries, and regional press to Gisburn. His collaborations with the Italian Trade Agency have showcased Lancashire produce to Italian audiences, creating cultural exchange that benefits tourism in both directions.

Tom Pridmore, Tourism Officer at Ribble Valley Borough Council, captured it perfectly: “The Ribble Valley is home to many award-winning restaurants and, for twenty years, La Locanda has been providing truly unique culinary experiences with the finest authentic Italian food, served in a most charming venue. Twenty years of excellence, borne out of hard work and dedication. We feel proud to have La Locanda in the Ribble Valley.”
